Hello. I am hoping someone here can help me solve this very irritating problem.
I am trying to connect my Dell V715w printer to my computer via ethernet. I purchased the printer many years ago, so I do not have the original installation disk, therefore I downloaded the Windows 10 installation exe on the Dell website. After running it, I get all the way up to the "Select connection type" screen, at which time I choose "Ethernet connection." It prompts me to connect my ethernet cable, which I do, and then I hit "Continue." But, no matter what, on the "Select your printer" page that comes up, nothing is available.
My printer is on and the ethernet cable works and has a steady connection (I get a green light on my switch board, which is connected to my computer). The only problem I can presume is that the switch board may be interfering with the printer's communication with my computer. However, I cannot plug the ethernet cable directly into my computer because it is too short.
I cannot connect wirelessly and I do not have a long enough USB cord, so this is my only option. I hope someone has advice...I wish I had more information, but there simply is none. I do not know what would be causing the lack of communication (the computer simply will not recognize that the printer is plugged in).
Thank you for any assistance!
