C1760nw works - but not recognised by Status Monitor

HI,

I have Windows 10 64 bit.  ASUS Desktop.   Printer connected via USB.  Epson inkjet printer also installed, also on USB.  Whether this printer is on or off has no effect on the problem below.

My printer works fine except none of the Dell software recognises the printer.  So I cannot get the remaining toner level in Status Monitor, or change settings in the Tool Box.  I get the following:

"Printers are not installed in the system"

The printer is installed and prints successfully.  However I seemed to run out of cyan but the printer kept on working!  I assume this is linked to the fact the monitoring software is not connecting to the printer? Although I would have expected the printer itself to stop when the toner was out.

I even tried disabling my AV software (Avast Free).

Any ideas?
